Gold Coast Business Community Rallies Behind Ketra

The Gold Coast business community is rallying behind the plight of a young Gold Coast woman Ketra Wooding who has been struck down with a rare illness.

Prolific Gold Coast construction company Condev has launched a fundraiser to build a purpose-built triplex to accommodate the needs of Ketra whose only current option for full time care is an aged care facility.

Mayor Tom Tate last night launched an official fundraiser for Ketra to build a new facility in Palm Beach which will be constructed by Condev and supported by consultants and associated trades who will help build a state-of-the-art facility for her.

The construction company developing a profile of projects on the Gold Coast is aiming to help those in need through these charitable works.

Condev’s proposed development is a two-level apartment block, comprising three contemporary, coastal designed two-bedroom accessible apartments and a supporting overnight assistance room.

The project has received DA approval for the $1.2 million specialist disability accommodation (SDA) approved apartment project in the heart of Palm Beach with designs in accordance with the latest SDA guidelines providing NDIS High Physical Support.

This Approval is a major milestone and couldn’t have been achieved without the assistance of the following companies who provided their services on a pro bono basis: Urbis, BDA, McKenzie Group, Group 6, Richard Flanagan & Co, Auscoast Fire, ADG, Pacific Civil Engineering, TTM, Acousticworks and Andrews & Hansen.

Executive Director of Condev Construction Tracy Marais said the project has struck a chord with the soul of the company and the business community.

“We have supported Ketra in a range of ways through our charity arm, Condev Cares and this project is very special and a huge milestone for Condev Construction, both personally and professionally,” said Mrs Marais.

“There continues to be a shortage on the Gold Coast for SDA-suited housing, and we hope that we can help fill that void with this exciting new project.

“Now that construction is soon to begin, it is truly amazing how Gold Coast trades are coming forward to offer their support.

“Ketra is a beautiful young woman who is very inspirational to so many Gold Coasters and we cannot wait to be present on the day when we hand over the keys to her brand-new home.”

Ketra Wooding, who will soon be living in the home of her dreams, is fighting a rare condition called ME/CFS (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) which confines her to living in an aged care institution at the age of only 35.

“I am very thankful for the work Condev has put into creating the home of my dreams and making it suitable for me and a few others,” said Miss Wooding.

“Condev’s development gives me access to a more independent lifestyle, in close proximity to some of the Gold Coast’s best beaches, shops and public transport as well as providing me with NDIS High Physical Support systems. This will greatly improve my quality of life and I have hope for the future for the first time in ten years.”

The upper level apartment will be wheelchair and lift accessible to provide a tailored and independent living area for Miss Wooding to reside, located just 400 metres from the beach with an accessible pathway and wheelchair access to the foreshore and throughout the neighbouring reserves.

“These will be fully-functional contemporary apartments utilising the latest SDA technology to provide well-suited accommodation to those in desperate need of SDA housing appropriate to meet their needs,” said Mrs Marais.

The newest development by Condev will feature cutting-edge technology solutions and highly accessible accommodation for residents with similar needs to Miss Wooding.

The site is located at First Avenue, Palm Beach, within 200 metres of the high frequency transport hub, connecting residents to northern suburbs and other major Gold Coast precincts.

Condev Construction has a number of projects throughout South East Queensland in the multi-level residential, commercial and aged care sectors with the latest development including the $77 million Natura project in Burleigh Heads.

The company and the fundraising sector have partnered with Youngcare, a high care needs company based in Brisbane, to provide ongoing support and guidance throughout the lifetime of the project.

Commencement of construction is planned for January 2021 and is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2021.
